Delgado cuts his salary by 2% and those of the councillors, managers of public companies and consultants. He will reduce advertising agreements with the media by 50%
Following the example of the president of the Community of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, the Mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado, has announced a cut of 2% in his salary and those of his consultants - 18 in total (not 40, as constantly stated by the PSOE), the 5 managers of public companies and the team of both full time and part time councillors of the municipal corporation.
There will also be a reduction of 2% in the budget for expenses of the posts elect for assistance at plenary sessions, government commissions, informative commissions and board meetings of the municipal companies and organisations.
Likewise, all positions mentioned previously, who hold other compatible political posts with other administrations or public companies and receive salaries, expenses, or financial aid of any description for this, are being urged to renounce all but one of these during 2010. The municipal allowances for political parties will also be cut by 2%.
The proposal for these measures will be raised by the Municipal Party, PP, at July's plenary session, and will take effect from the month of August. Thus the agreement adopted at the plenary session of 25th September, 2008 to address the economic crisis, which stated that all payments to posts elect, management and consultants were being frozen for 2009, is continued and expanded.
As well as the aforementioned measures, Carlos Delgado has announced his intention to reduce by 50% the budget for agreements with the media for 2010, independently of the renegotiation of agreements which are valid, at this moment in time, with the objective of adapting them to the planned reduction.
The savings made by the freezing of salaries and the reduction of the budget for advertising in the media can be used to combat the effect of the crisis in the municipality and for other requirements and projects which the Town Hall may put in motion.
Delgado urges the Govern Balear and Consell de Mallorca to follow his example by cutting the salaries of those in high positions.
