The Town Hall plenary session approved said plan whose objective is to set up an action plan to raise awareness about preventing the consumption of narcotic substances

Calvià Town Hall approved in a plenary session the Municipal Plan for Prevention of Drugs 2009-2012 which, as in the previous plan, aims at setting up an action plan to raise awareness about preventing the consumption of drugs, providing  areas of coordination, collaboration and cooperation between the various organisations working within the municipality on this problem.

Said plan, which will follow the same line of action as the previous one, promotes various activities and actions from the perspective of prevention, advice, formation and information, adapting this to the social realities which surround the Calvià population.

Amongst the general objectives, stand out the promotion of preventive activities which encourage changes in attitude leading to alterations in behaviour where drug abuse is involved, and also, the reinforcement of behaviour which encourages a healthy lifestyle, and finally, the promotion of total involvement in the circles of drug dependency by way of coordination between the various public and private organisations.  On the other hand, amongst the specific aims sought after, the spreading of information about the various substances available on the market, and their effects, must be stressed, as well as promoting personal protection factors and rehabilitation, as well as the integration in education, employment and society, of people with addiction problems.

As the municipality's role in the drug dependency situation is fundamentally prevention, the Municipal Plan is aimed at two groups.  On one hand those involved in actions for prevention in general, especially with regard to the general public; the professionals who work in contact with young people; the families, with the objective of preventing high risk situations, and youngsters of school age (from Primary 6 to 2nd year "Bachiller" - approximately 12 - 18 years), and on the other hand, those involved in actions for a specific type of prevention, including young "users" aged between 12 and 18, and those areas where the use of drugs has become a behavioural problem at a personal, social and/or professional level.
