On 5th December they will each be posthumously awarded a gold medal. Each will have a street named after them, a memorial will be unveiled and a flag will be flown in honour of the “Guardia Civil”

On 5th December, 2009 Calvià Town Hall will posthumously pay homage to the two young Civil Guard officers, Carlos Sáenz de Tejada García and Diego Salvà Lezaun, who lost their lives in the brutal terrorist attack carried out by the Basque Separatist group ETA on 30th July,2009 in Palmanova.

During the ceremony, which will begin at 12 noon, officials will posthumously award the Calvià gold medals, in recognition of their dedication to the municipality, to the families of the two officers who lost their lives in the course of duty. Prior to this act, the street plaques bearing the names of the two officers will be unveiled.

As unanimously agreed by all municipal parties, in a plenary session, the existing "na Boira" street, where the atrocity took place, opposite the headquarters of the Guardia Civil, will herewith bear the name of D. Diego Salvà Lezaun. The currently unnamed street which runs between "l'Avinguda Pedro Vaquer" and "l'Avinguda de l'Olivera", in close proximity to the site of the attack, will be named D. Carlos Sáenz de Tejada García.

As part of the ceremony, a commemorative stone, paying homage to the Guardia Civil will be unveiled on the Palmanova roundabout and the Spanish flag will be flown in their honour.

During the past few weeks, Calvià Town Hall has been making the arrangements for this tribute. These were finalised last Tuesday on receiving confirmation of assistance from the families of Diego Salvà Lezaun and Carlos Sáenz de Tejada García.
