Together with Palmanova and Palmira they are the only three beaches of the Balearics to achieve this prestigious award
Santa Ponça beach, for the first time has been presented with the "Q" award for Quality Tourism, given by the Institute for Spanish Quality Tourism (Instituto para la Calidad Turística Española - ICTE), in recognition of the high standards and amenities offered on said beach.
Santa Ponça beach joins Palmanova and Palmira beaches, which were given the award in 2004 and 2005, respectively, thus converting them in the only three beaches of the balearics to hold such an award.
Deputy mayor for the coastal area, Bartolomé Bonafé, accepted the award, presented by the president of ICTE, Miguel Mirones, and the Secretary General for Tourism, Joan Mesquida, in a recent ceremony in Madrid. In order to fulfil the requirements for the award, Santa Ponça beach has undergone an extensive independent audit, which included the assessment of services such as lifeguards, sunbeds, sunshades, cleaning and Town Hall management, to name but a few.
It should be noted that Santa Ponsa beach also boasts a Blue Flag, and due to major quality improvements, for example, a wooden walkway between the main access and the shore, and specially adapted toilet facilities, can be considered a beach completely suitable for the less mobile, together with Son Maties, Palmanova and El Toro beaches.
Mayor Carlos Delgados and his team are delighted at this new "Q" for Quality Tourism, which reflects the hard work carried out on the beaches and coastline of Calvià and its international recognition.
