Calvià 2000 is holding, completely free of charge, a course on "urban gardening" on 6th March at 10.30h. at the Deixalleria de Calvià. The idea is to provide a basic knowledge of how to grow vegetables on a patio, terrace or balcony, and promote the use of domestic compost, as this is the best method of reducing domestic waste.

Inscription for the course, which will be given by Manel Font of the company "Tot Compost S.L." should be done by telephoning Calvià 2000 (971 699 200) or by calling in to their offices in c/ Illes Balears, number 25 of the Polígono of Son Bugadelles.

The course will consist of a theory session, of approximately one hour, where various pictures of vegetable gardens and descriptions will be shown and explained, followed by a practical session, also lasting one hour, which will include the assembly of a table top cultivation, growth enhancing products, basic principles of association and rotation, planting of shrubs and seeds and maintenance and watering techniques.

The possibility of growing vegetables in an urban environment is becoming both a necessity and a social demand, due to the ever increasing deterioration of the environment. Therefore, promoting urban vegetable gardens, which are as ecological as possible, will contribute towards a better quality of life for residents and a greener inner city environment.
