The Town Hall has invested 510.000 euros for the recovery of this tourist route, a project originally entrusted to the Council of Mallorca and will soon be inviting tenders for the Paseo Calvià-Es Capdellà
The aim to promote tourist routes which combine sporting activities with an added bonus of culture, nature, heritage or history, is, undoubtedly, one of the central themes which the Town Hall, presided by Mayor Carlos Delgado, is concentrating on to help lengthen seasonality.
At the end of the previous legislature, the Passeig Calvià was extended by eight kilometres. To this tremendous work, must be added four itineraries of more than 35 kilometres of the incomparable Galatzó Country Estate and, since barely two months ago, the Disembarkation Routes, which allow walkers to relive the route taken by King James I more than 700 years ago. And now, next spring, the much-claimed "Itinerari de Natura Peguera-Es Capdellà" (Peguera-Es Capdellà Nature Route) will be inaugurated. Said project has been, finally, undertaken and carried out, totally, by the Consistory of Calvià, after the disinterest shown by the Council of Mallorca (Consell de Mallorca), in spite of the fact that it was, originally, said non-municipal institution which should have undertaken the work.
However, due to the attitude of indifference shown by the Council of Mallorca, which has barely paid attention to the many requests made by both the plenary sessions of the Town Hall and the hoteliers of the area, themselves, to comply with the commitments acquired in the general protocol of collaboration signed in February, 2007, by which the Council (of Mallorca) would undertake the project, in the end it has been Carlos Delgado's government team which has declared said protocol resolved and has contributed an economic injection of 510.000 euros to enable the new route to become a reality within a few months.
Work has already began and is well under way on this new tourist route which will be 4,1 km. long and 1,50 metres wide. An agreement has been reached with proprietors to use 22.000 sq. metres of land, and existing "marges" (stone walls) and fences will be restored and preserved. Furthermore, the "graner del delme" (small stone construction), which is included on the plans of the project, will be restored and provided with a rest area and a viewpoint facing "la Vall Verda" (the green valley).
The Itinerari de Natura Peguera-Es Capdellà, as the Peguera and Cala Fornells Hotel Association also reminded the Council of Mallorca, will help lengthen seasonality as for many years this tourist route, of great interest to lovers of nature, has been used and enjoyed by visitors. Calvià promotes all quality tourist products and each and every activity related to sport, patrimony, the environment and culture, which contribute to the lengthening of seasonality.
By the same token, the Town Hall will soon be inviting tenders for the sum of 500.000 euros for the new paseo/path project, which will link Calvià village with Es Capdellà, a new route for cyclists and passers-by. The paseo/path, which will run parallel to the existing road, will be 1,5 km. long. Also, the junctions at the Calvià Sports Centre and the entrance to Es Capdellà will be signposted and tidied up.
