The project is now complete, the centre consists of 4 classrooms, an activity room, a multi purpose room, a kitchen, staff and children's washrooms, staff room and playgrounds.
Mayor Carlos Delgado; Deputy Mayor for education Esperanza Català and the Councillor for Palmanova, Manolo Grillé, held an inauguration, ceremony, yesterday afternoon, for the completely refurbished Palmanova nursery school which first opened it's doors in 1973..
This impotant project means that 9 out of 10 state nursery schools within the Municipality of Calvià have undergone refurbishment and for the remaining one in Calvià village it is planned that work will commence this year.
The overall cost of the Palmanova nursery project is 325.747 euros, of which 306.000 euros relate to the actual building work and 19.747 to replacing furniture and equipment. The nursery reopened its doors on the 15th of February after having been closed for some 7 months, during this time the children were relocated to the nurseries in either Son Caliu, Magaluf or Son Ferrer.
This modernisation project means that the facilities are more adapted to better fulfill the needs of both the children, and of the teaching staff. There is actually a special baby room and a toddler ( 1-2 year olds ) room, 2 classrooms for 2-3 year olds an activity room, a multi purpose room, a kitchen, adult and child washrooms, staff room and playgrounds. There are 61 child places at this nursery and in the whole municipality there are 613 nursery places.
There are 9 members of staff in total, a coordinator, 6 teachers, a cook and a cleaner.
The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Balearic Government partially financed the project, by way of a grant of 65.582.71 Euros, under the 2009-2001 "Assistance in the creation and consolidation for infant education ".
