Calvià Foundation, in collaboration with the Town Hall, aims to show recognition to good architecture and to be considered a point of reference and encouragement to architects

 

Calvià Foundation, in collaboration with the Town Hall, has announced the first edition of the Calvià architectural awards with the aim of not only contributing to diffusion and collective recognition of good architecture or to serve as a point of reference and encouragement for architects but also to showcase examples of architecture and construction in this municipality.


Therefore, the prizes have been divided in three sections and distinctions will be awarded to the best architectonical work of the last 30 years; for the best refurbishment, extension or upgrading buildings or public areas: squares, walk ways ,etc finalized between 2000 and 2009 and to the most relevant works carried out in certain tourist establisments in Calvià.


Any qualyfied architect registered in Spain can enter this competition and each one can present a maximum of three projects in each of the three sections. Furthermore, projects which are presented by non original architects may be presented as long as all of the pertinent rules are complied with.


The required documentation for participation in said prizes should be presented at Foundation Calvià 2004, head social office (c/ Julià Bujosa Sans, batle, 1. Calvià) between the 1st and 15th of the following month of June, from Mondays to Fridays from 9 to 14 hours. The inscription can also be presented via fax (971 13 91 61) by mail or e-mail (amoya@calvia.com).


For the judging of the presented works and following (non economic) prize giving, a jury will be selected to judge the first phase and this could include also works, which in their opinion diserve to go through to the final phase even though they havent been presented by the original, nor other architects. The second phase will consist of designating the prizes. It should be highlighted that the jury will publicize their decisions before the 31st July and the works will be shown in a public exhibition.


The prizes to be awarded include a sculpture and the publishing of a book which will feature the main characteristics of the winning work as well as examples of the other works. The prize for each section will be given to the creator/s of the project; the building directors of the project; to the building company and the promotor.
