The architecture Calvià Awards I Edition, recognizes the Hotels Melià de Mar and Hospes Maricel

The architecture Calvià Awards 2010 1st Edition´s jury, who met last 30th of July, agreed to award the Melià de Mar Hotel, designed by Joseph Maria Coderch de Sentmenat, for the best architectural work from the last 30 years, within the A section official announcement, organized by the Calvià Town Hall and Calvià Foundation, in collaboration with the official Balearic Islands Architects School and HAPIMAG.

New building or refurbishment works, building enlargement or fitting-out works, finished between years 2000 and 2009 (both inclusive), were valued within the B section. The first prize was for Hospes Maricel Hotel, designed by EQUIP (Xavier Claramunt, Martín Ezquerro and Pau Rodríguez). In section C, prize for the most outstanding architectural intervention made in tourist establishments in Calvià, which the Hospes Maricel Hotel was also awarded with. The jury also wanted to make a recognition to the Divino´s Enoteca-Gastroteca´s interior design, the nursery in Bendinat, the Europalma tourist apartments and to a complex of 32 homes in Ses Rotes Velles.


The architecture Calvià Awards 1st Edition jury, was made up of the following members: Mr. Jaime Martínez, architect, Calvià 2004 Foundation secretary; Mr. José María Fontela Esquivias, architect, Head of the Calvià Town Hall´s Town Planning Service; Mr. Gabriel Palmer Socias, Calvià Town Hall´s architect; Mr. Alfonso Romero Amengual, architect, in representation of COAIB (Official School of Architects on the Balearic Islands); Mr. José Antonio Martínez Lapeña, a national prestigious architect and Mr. Juan Miguel Tizón, a local prestigious architect.
