Once again, from mid-September, free Spanish lessons will be offered by the Calvià Town Hall for foreign citizens living in Calvià.
Last Wednesday was the last day to register for these courses which more than 250 residents have applied for and which will take place at the Casal de Peguera, at the Casa de Cultura in Santa Ponça; at the IFOC in Magaluf; at Es Generador and at the Public School Migjorn in Bendinat, as in previous years.
Mentioned lessons started in 2003, fulfilling, an electoral promise. Since then, the number of pupils who have enrolled, has increased, proving, therefore, the excellent reception of these lessons between this sector of the population. The first year, these lessons were given to 190 pupils;133 pupils participated in the 2004/05 edition;153 in the 2005/06 course; 223 in 2006/07; 181 in 2007/08; 284 in 2008/09 and 270 ended their course, last May.
It is expected that these lessons will start in mid-September until the beginning of May 2011. As in previous editions, the courses will be arranged depending on the level of proficiency , establishing three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced.
The government team is delighted with the success of these classes which are another example of the various events organised by the Town Hall to facilitate integration in a municipality where a total of 109 nationalities coexist. With this aim, the Town Hall created, in 2003, the Department for the Foreign Citizen which celebrates yearly, Europe Day.
