The municipal office, “Calvià for the Climate”, has organised for the following Saturday, from 10 a.m, another deep sea cleaning session

The Calvià Town Hall, through the municipal office, “Calvià for the Climate”, has organised for the following Saturday, another deep sea and coast line cleaning session in Portals Vells.


Since last Monday, in collaboration with the Shark divers group, various cleaning sessions are taking place, in which a total of 10 divers, comb the area and move the collected waste materials to a point close to the coast, where, from the following Saturday, will be taken out, to be collected afterwards, by a lorry from the company Calvià 2000.


Therefore, the volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. on the beach in Portals Vells, on Saturday.

The cleaning session is due to be finished at 12 p.m. and it is expected the participation of about 20 divers and Civil Defence staff. Furthermore, a vessel from the Local Police will take out from under the sea, the found waste materials. Once the cleaning sessions are completed, the company, La Alacena de Mallorca, will invite all the voluntary participants to an aperitif.


The deep sea cleaning programme, promoted by the Calvià for the Climate office, has as a main aim, two cleaning sessions per year. One, before the high tourist season and the second, after, in order to alleviate any possible environmental damage and to improve its tourist attractiveness. Up to date, more than 9 tons of residues have been collected within the various, carried out, deep sea cleaning sessions.


Also, this year, the activity has been intensified, with a third cleaning session, programmed in August in Cala Figuera, through the agreement reached with the Balearic Navigators Foundation. A ton of waste materials were removed in that occasion.


From the organization, it is expected to remove, on Saturday, mainly, glass residues, as happened last year on this same beach, where 300 kilos of residues were removed, specifically, 450 bottles.
