The Mayor Carlos Delgado sends a letter to the President Antich in which he asks him the payment of 9 million euros from the Balearic Government for the municipality´s sewage treatment system improvement

The Calvià Town Hall, has requested the Balearic Government the payment for the different fitting-out, enlargement and improvement works of the sewage treatment system in the municipality of Calvià, which have been carried out by the municipal public company Calvià 2000 and which were not taken into consideration by the Regional Ministry of Environment, although the municipal councils have the right, by law, to be compensated for mentioned costs.  

Therefore, the Mayor has sent a letter to the regional executive´s president, Francesc Antich, in which he asks him to carry out the necessary procedures to become effective, the payment of the nine million euros for the urgent improvement and remodelling works required in the sewage treatment plants of Santa Ponça, Santa Ponça 2, Bendinat, Peguera and Peguera I; works which petition for compensation has now been positively taken into consideration, by the BalearicTreasury Board.

It is to be highlighted that from mentioned quantity, Calvià 2000 has already financed, directly, a total of 866.680 euros to carry out urgent works in the sewage treatment plants of Peguera I, Peguera II and Santa Ponça 2 with the aim of avoiding risks of sewage spills into the sea.

Mentioned petition for compensation is added to a previous letter that the Calvià Town Hall sent to the Regional Minister of Environment, Gabriel Vicens, in July 2010, in which also claimed the payment of mentioned quantity, acknowledged by the Treasury Board, and that up to now, no answer has been received.

The remodelling and improvement works carried out by Calvià 2000, had as main aim, adequate the Calvià´s sewage treatment system to the new environmental regulations, these were not appreciated by the Regional Ministry of Environment, despite having the technical´s, in the administration, approval.

The works, which were not accepted, on the day, by the Regional Ministry of Environment are, the installation of the Santa Ponça´s plant tertiary treatment; the remodellations of the EDAR (Sewage Treatment Plants) of Bendinat, Peguera and Santa Ponça II, the change of location of the Peguera I sewage treatment plant and the replacement of the Peguera´s EDAR land discharge outlet. It is to be recalled that, had not been accepted their request of compensation, Calvià 2000 gave notice of the corresponding economic-administrative claims which now have been positively resolved by the Treasury Board, declaring the public company´s right to be compensated.

Finally, in the letter sent by the Mayor Carlos Delgado to the regional executive´s president, it is requested the designation of the corresponding budget allocation for this purpose, otherwise, the Town Hall will be forced to request mentioned designation in court.
