IFOC, along with the department for Heritage of the Calvià Town Hall, are in the process of restoring the lime baking oven at Na Llaneres through its employment workshop Galatzó V.
By helping in the restauration of Na Llaneres, the Galatzó V program for building renovators and agricultural and livestock workers is aiding in the recovery of a heritage element of great ethnical value.
Learning the trade of liming and all that it entails gives this workshop not only an added teaching aspekt, but also represents a clear commitment towards the recovery and conservation of some of the values of the Sierra de Tramuntana.
From a teaching aspect, the objectives for this projetct, which is co-financed by the Town Hall of Calvià, SOIB and IFOC are:
To increase the professional capacity of those trade workers that specialize in the rehabilitation of dry-stack stone walls and rural construction.
To recover a traditional trade, that historically has enjoyed great value in the Mediterranean Islands for its respect for traditional processes and use of natural materials that can be found on the property itself.
To work for the preservation of the heritage of the Sierra de Tramuntana on the Finca Galatzó, where currently seven lime ovens can be found.
To develop new ways to interact with rural areas that include the public, and establish a positive and active attitude for the defense of nature and cultural heritage.
To collaborate in the maintenance of agricultural and forestry activities, that to a great extent determine the character of the rural landscape.
