The Mayor of Calvià, Manuel Onieva, would like to show, the day before the inauguration of the Olympic Games of London 2012, his support to the three olympic Calvian athletes: David Bustos, Mario Mola and Melanie Costa.
It is said that three is a magic number. And although I don´t believe much in these things, today I feel that this number is the lucky one for Calvià, as three are the sport people of the municipality who will represent us in the Olympic Games of London : Melanie Costa, Mario Mola and David Bustos.
Three are the names and three the stories of these young values, who at this moment in time, are in the British capital unpacking their lugagge full of dreams and hopes. Honestly, as the Mayor I am of Calvià and as a resident of my municipality, I feel very honored knowing that the name of my village will be recognized thanks to them. Also, and aboveall, I am very proud with the fact that they will become an image in which the youth of our municipality, of our islands and of our country, who are so in need of a new outlook, will look upon and will take it as an example for future sport in the Balearic Islands and in Spain.
Melanie, Mario and David represent all that Calvià firmly supports: work, effort, humility, dedication and perseverance. Great goals are usually achieved with these values; therefore, the municipality´s support to sport and, specially, to sport at junior levels, has always been a priority as it is a secure formula to achieve success, not only in sport competitions, but very specially, in life itself. Sport boosts all those virtues that make people great and that greatness is, with no doubt, the one that guarentees the societies future in this so globalized world and, sometimes, so in lack of opportunities.
With these few lines, I would like to take the advantage to testify my admiration and gratitude to Melanie, Mario and David because what they have achieved today is already a great success within their lives and, also, a landmark in the sport history of our municipality. Therefore, I would like to thank them publicly for all their achievement and hard work, because one thing they can be sure of is that the people of Calvià will be there, supporting them at every moment, whatever the outcome.
You will always have our wholeheartedly support beacuse you deserve it. We will be your travel companions and we will not miss a detail of your participation in these XXX Olympic Games. The name of Calvià going in your representation will be in best of hands.
Three young people of Calvià are now in London competing with other many sport people for the so yearned olympic medal. It could be that they achieve it or not, but for this municipality and this Mayor, they already have their gold medal for their greatness, tenacity, humility and well doing.
Good luck boys and girls!!!
