The 2013/14 academic year starts on Friday 13/09/2013 for the public primary and secondary school centres. A total of 14 public and private school centres exist in the Municipality of Calvià.

The centres, depending on their location and their traffic dangerousness, are classified in 3 levels, ensuring the permanent presence in the most dangerous ones and carrying out verifications and sporadic surveillance in the rest.

The police programme starts at the end of this week finishing at the end of the academic year (last week of June 2014), which will take place during the course of 35 weeks, accupying approximately 180 school days.

Every day, a minimum of 18 policemen who cover the entrance and departure of the priority schools are assigned for these duties. Sometimes, when the service allows, a total of 28 policemen could be assigned for these functions, in one day. This will mean to assign approximately  2.700 hours of effective transit control throughout this academic year, which starts within these days, with the aim of controlling the traffic, improve the fluidity and, aboveall, guarantee the security of the pupils of the Municipality.

The Local Police of Calvià requests the collaboration of the pupils´ parents and reminds them of the importance of:

  • Going to school with punctuality and with no last-minute inconveniences

  • That all occupants are obligated to use their seat-belts and the obligatory retention systems, before departure

  • Using the parking spaces to leave and collect the children

  • Ensuring that the children leave on the pedestrian side

  • Taking care that the children cross the street always by the existing crosswalks

  • Giving an example such as from parents to children with the compliance of the rules (as a driver and as pedestrians)

  • Attending the indications of the policemen who control the traffic
