The SOIB has been the one in charge of selecting the staff, who will carry out maintenance works, and the consistory will earmark for this purpose a total of 173.000 euros, the budget foreseen for the Christmas lighting.

The Calvià Town Hall presented this morning the project with which 30 unemployed people of the municipality will be contracted for carrying out maintenance tasks and to which a total of 173.000 euros have been earmarked. The contracts will have a duration of six months and the candidates have been selected by the SOIB (Employment Service Agency of the Balearic Islands). The total amount is the one initially aimed at the Christmas lighting.

The selection criteria is based on the profession of the unemployed, whom have to prove their residence in the municipality of Calvià considering also the number of years spent as job-searchers. The majority of the unemployed contracted are people who have run out of their unemployment benefit and are receiving the 426€ monthly-subsidy.

The contracts are addressed to painting brigades, whose tasks are located in school centres, the municipal cemetery, the urban furniture and the public way; the purpose of the gardening brigade is the maintenance and the improvement of the gardened facilities of Calvià; and the purpose of the construction works brigade is to repair the pavements of the whole municipality, the facades and the urban furniture.

The Deputy Mayor for Maintenance, Miquel Bonet, highlighted that they will provide the same Christmas lighting as in previous years.
