The Mayor of Calvià suggests the Regional Government should eliminate free alcohol in all inclusive packages and thanks the Regional Minister for Tourism for his willingness to put the matter on the table.
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has had a meeting with the Vice President of the regional government and Regional Minister for Tourism, Biel Barceló, in a first workshop that the town councillor described as very profitable, as they have been able to talk on issues related to tourism that are of interest for the municipality of Calvià.
Rodríguez Badal has considered the necessity that the offer for free alcohol should be eliminated in all inclusive regulation, within the modification of the General Tourist Law (Ley General Turística). The excesses of this type of low cost offers go against the objective of quality increase, and can also cause problems related to public health, communal living, etc. In this sense, he's satisfied with the words of the Regional Minister, that has assured that “It's an open debate. What we have said, is that logically, from the moment the first tourist Town Hall asks for it, it's clear that the debate is open and we will put it on the table”. He's also indicated that when all regulations that affect town halls have to be undertaken, they'll ask their assistance to have their suggestions present and work on them together.
Other matters have also been addressed, as the investments agreed on last legislature. The Mayor has thanked the commitment of the regional government that these investments will continue.
The Mayor and the Regional Minister have also agreed on the necessity that both administrations work together and collaborate in tourist matters, given the importance Calvià has as the main destination in the Balearic Islands. In this sense, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has pointed out that independently of issues that can be more specific, they want to work together to help tourism grow out of the high season, apart from dealing with other aspects in order to increase general quality of the destination.
