The Mayor receives the petition of the Vice President of Oceana, Xavier Pastor, on extending Marine Reserves.
The Mayor of Calvià held a meeting this morning with the Vice President of Oceana, Xavier Pastor, who presented a proposal to enlarge Marine Reserves in waters of the municipality.
The initiative suggests uniting the existing reserves of Malgrats and El Toro islands, and extend environmental protection to the Rafaubeig coast.
Since the Town Hall looks favourably upon this proposal, the intention is to raise it to Regional Government level after having reached an agreement, as it could combine preservation of the seabed surrounding the municipality, with traditional fishind, responsible fishing methods and recrational diving.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Mayor Delegate of Tourism, Commerce and Urban Planning, Antonio García Moles, the General Director of Environment and Urban Planning, Jaume Carbonero, and the marine scientist of Oceana, Marta Carreras.
