The Town Hall of Calvià announces an extraordinary grant promotion for university students of the municipality. Application forms must be presented from the 1st to 14th October 2015.

 

The Town Hall of Calvià announces the beginning of one of the commitments made in the investiture agreement, with the authorization of the sum of 40,000 euros for an extraordinary announcement of grants for university degree students in the municipality.


Therefore, the municipal government formations team fulfil one of the main objectives of this term: equal opportunities for all citizens of Calvià.


The budget of 40,000 euros will be dedicated to students starting college or already enrolled in degree studies, at the UIB, or starting or already studying - degrees not offered at the UIB – in any public university in any territory of the state. For the first case, a sum of 30,000 euros is budgeted, and for the second case, 10,000 euros.


Up to 120 young people will benefit from this extraordinary measure for the 2015-2016 course, to cover transport expenses, payment of public prices, books and equipment, with the aim of promoting university studies between citizens of the municipality of Calvia.


Thus, four aid modalities have been provided:


  • Type A-1: 50 scholarships for students who enter university studies leading to degrees at the University of the Balearic Islands. Each grant will be for an amount of 300 euros.

  • Type A-2: 50 scholarships to students who are pursuing studies leading to official degree courses at the University of the Balearic Islands. Each grant will be for an amount of 300 euros.

  • Type B-1: 10 scholarships for students enter university studies leading to official degree courses in any public university outside the Balearic Islands, within the Spanish state. Each grant will be for an amount of 500 euros.

  • Mode B-2: 10 scholarships to students who are pursuing studies leading to official degree courses in any public university outside the Balearic Islands, within the Spanish state. Each grant will be for an amount of 500 euros.


These grants will be compatible with others for the same concept that may be granted by other public or private entities, and incompatible with other scholarship program and /or economic assistance provided by the Town Hall of Calvia, through the Municipal Institute for Education and Libraries of Calvià (IMEB).

 

A series of selection criteria have been established for granting, prevailing issues such as parents or legal guardians in an unemployment situation; large families, single parent-families, orphans, or those with disabilities. It will also be taken into account the fact of not having received any financial aid during the 2014-2015 course; and the marks obtained or the percentage of passed credits, will also be aspects taken into account when awarding the scholarships, according to the principles of transparency and merit.


The application period is from 1st to 14th October 2015.
