The athlete Ricardo García Castro will attempt waterskiing to join the Magaluf Beach in Mallorca and the Santa Eulalia beach in Ibiza. The Deputy Mayor for Sports, Eva Serra, attended the presentation.

Ricardo García Castro, an athlete born in La Palma (Canary Islands) will try to unite, waterskiing without stopping, the beaches of Magaluf (Mallorca) and Santa Eulalia (Ibiza) in the Mediterranean, with a total distance of approximately 60 nautical miles. The challenge will take place this Saturday 15th August, provided that the sea conditions allow for the crossing.

The presentation was attended by the Deputy Mayor for Sports, Youth and Foreign Residents, Eva Serra, as well as the General Director for Sports, Marcos Pecos.

Two boats will go with Ricardo García. The first one is the most important one, the tow boat that pulls him and that has to maintain a constant speed. The second one is a support boat, from where he will be supplied with nuts and water, basic so he doesn't run out of body sugar or liquid.

It's not the first time that Ricardo García faces a challenge of this nature. He completed the union of the seven Canary Islands in 2005, covering a total of 187.8 nautic miles; the crossing between Lanzarote and La Palma with only one stop in Tenerife in 2008, 242 miles; and the non-stop trip around the island of La Palma in 2007, 72 miles.

This trip also represents an added challenge for Ricardo García, because three years ago he suffered a bad motorcycle accident in the US that almost took his life. It's for this reason, and after going through a hard and painful recovery process in record time, that this athlete wants to devote his efforts to all those who have gone through similar circumstances and demonstrate that with will and determination we can all recover and achieve our dreams in life.
