Both, Calvià Town Hall and Fundación Calvià have published the catalogue of spaces available for BetArt Calvià 2016. This fourth edition of BetArt Calvià in which 17 facilities are proposed will mean, the consolidation of the contest which started in 2012 and which it establishes to continue with the aim of starting up an open air museum, open and participative, in which catalogue are gathered signatures renown internationally. It is an innovative and avant-garde project with a clear cultural and tourist orientation.

The majority of the facilities propose more than one surface to be intervened. Therefore, artists can choose different surfaces of the same building or of various constructions for their project; as well as propose interventions that embrace more than one surface of a same building- if the building requires it-.

The BetArt interventions make up an itinerary which approaches art from the public spaces or from those which despite being private, are accessible to the citizen. It also finds a balance between art and tourism contributing therefore to improve the deseasonalised offer including activities in which the binomial sun-beach is not essential. Needless to recall the role of tourism in the municipality of Calvià, active role in its economic and social aspect and, with this proposal, also cultural.

It is to be added that, it is a pioneer and unique initiative on the island which despite its short carreer, it establishes as a call within the artistic field beyond the island's borders and as an idea itself. The urban art is a timeless attraction which avant-gardes the area, reconstructing spaces and providing them of this precious added value. Apart from a dinamising function, meets a pedagogical function, as it gives visibility to new languages and aesthetics, promoting a three-way-dialogue art-surrounding-spectator, as every museum should do.

It is to be mentioned that BetArt is not reduced just to the creation of big-format urban art works in the municipality, but that one of its basic lines is the permanent work: BetArt is a project open to the continuous innovation, to the introduction of new proposals and receptive to incorporate bonds with new interested agents. The purpose of BetArt is make of Calvià an open air museum in which art is at disposal of the citizen without doors or timetables.

The Calvià Town Hall initiated in 2012 the BetArt project with the main aim of making artistic interventions in the street which will interact with both, the citizen and the visitor, guarantee the participation of the creators of the municipality, create synergies between artists and public and private entities, promote a new meeting and contact space between creators and those interested in arts, and to give value to the municipality of Calvià through the creation of new tourist incentives embellishing public and private spaces.

BetArt counted in 2012 on the realisation of ten interventions in different points of the geography of the municipality of Calvià: Santa Ponça, Es Capdellà, Palmanova and Magaluf. With the 2013 edition, the project was redesigned to generate different artistic routes in the municipality of Calvià, in consequence, they focused the realisation of the interventions on the areas of Palmanova-Son Caliu-Magaluf, thus forming the I BetArt Route. Following the same structure, the BetArt 2014 gathered its interventions in the localities of Santa Ponça-Urbanització Galatzó, creating the II BetArt Route. Having been delayed the 2015 call a semester, the BetArt's fourth edition, will give way to the III BetArt Route, and will take place in 2016 in Peguera.
