THE TOWN HALL AND THE HOTEL ASSOCIATIONS OF THE MUNICIPALITY SIGN AGREEMENTS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF THE PROGRAMME, CALVIÀ, EL INVIERNO EUROPEO

The Town Hall has increased the budget to revitalize the programme of activities aimed at tourists in the mid and low season.

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has signed agreements with representatives of the different hotel associations of the municipality for the management of the programme Calvià, el Invierno Europeo (Calvià, the European Winter) between January and April 2016.

On behalf of the business groups, the agreements have been signed by Sebastián Darder, President of the Hotel Association of Palmanova and Magaluf; Antonio Mayol, President of the Hotel Association of Peguera and Cala Fornells; Martin A. Xamena as President of the Hotel Association of Ca's Català and Illetes; Maria del Mar Soler as President of the Hotel Association of Portals Nous and Bendinat; and Antonio Roses, President of the Hotel Association of Santa Ponça Bay.

Calvià, el Invierno Europeo is a programme of free activities for visitors staying in tourist establishments in the months of lower tourist influx, from October to April. It began in 1992 with the aim of deseasonalizing the tourist activity, stimulate the activity of the sector, and contribute to an improvement of the labour occupation and the economic activity of the tourist areas of the municipality.

The agreements have been signed to allow the continuity of the programme in the year 2016, the direct management of which will be carried out by the Hotel Association of Palmanova and Magaluf and the Hotel Association of Santa Ponça Bay, which will design and plan the activities of the programme jointly with the technical services of the Town Hall, will direct the work teams, and will ensure the dissemination of the programme to the hotel customers, the tour operators and the travel agencies operating in the municipality.

The Town Hall puts at the programme's disposal the tourist information offices' network to disseminate the activities and provide information to visitors, as well as make the registrations jointly with the hotels for the activities required.

In order to continue progressing in the deseasonalization of the tourist activity of the municipality, the Town Hall has decided to give a boost to the programme by increasing the budget and widening the programme with new activities. The session aims to promote the tourist product of the municipality and increase the attractiveness of the destination in the low season, therefore it works in favour of a paradigm shift in order to lengthen the season.

The programme Calvià, el Invierno Europeo includes various activities such as routes, walks, workshops, guided visits, excursions and special events. Participants have the opportunity to discover the historical heritage, know different aspects of the local culture, go on excursions of different levels, or enjoy delicious traditional cuisine, amongst many other activities.

Traditional Majorcan herbs, oil tasting, aromatic salts preparation and processing ensaimada workshops have been held along with other actions planned in the last month of January. The participants were able to perform these activities in the Galatzó public estate in the Serra de Tramuntana, a privileged place declared World Heritage by the UNESCO in the category of cultural landscape. The new workshops, which will be further developed in the coming months, have had a great success in participation and acceptance by the attendee.
