Calvià organises a series of activities on the occasion of the International Women's Day on 8th March. The exhibition "Dones. Reconstruïm la història. Les Illes 1880-1936 " will open the conference.
The Calvià Town Hall is organising a series of activities for the coming days on the occasion of the International Women's Day which is celebrated on 8th March.
The photographic exhibition "Dones. Reconstruïm la història. Les Illes 1880-1936 " will be inaugurated on 4th March. The exhibition's main objective is to rescue from oblivion the Balearic women's role in the industry, the education and the feminist movement. The inauguration, which will take place in the Town Hall's exhibition room at 7 p.m., will be carried out by the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the director of the Institut Balear de la Dona, Rosa Cursach. The exhibition will be open until 22nd April, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
After, a recital by Arantxa Andreu and Juan Llamas will take place at the Plenary room under the title "Veu de dones" which is a tribute to women composers of traditional music. Songs of ten authors of the twentieth century such as Mayra Andrade, Rosario Flores, Suzanne Vega, Violeta Parra, etc will be sung.
On 5th March it has been scheduled an activity in which is proposed to do sport at the Magaluf athletics track from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The members of the 261 Women's Marathon have prepared a special training for the day no matter the age or fitness level. To wear comfortable clothes, take water and a smile is recommended. There will be a childcare service for children over 2 years old.
On 7th March the youths will be able to participate in the recording of the radio programme 'Saps el que cantes?' sobre 'Dones, música rock i igualtat', in which the messages which are behind the lyrics will be analyzed. It will take place in Es Generador, from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. The programme will be broadcast on Radio Calvià (107.4 FM) on 8th March at 8 p.m.
On 8th March there will be a special programme in Radio Calvià (107.4 FM) from 10 a.m. on the occasion of International Women's Day.
The conference "From Marie Curie to equality: women and sciences" by Maria Jesús Santesmases, researcher at the CSIC, will take place in the Sala Palmanova at 6 p.m. There will be a childcare service.
Equality workshops carried out by social workers of the Calvià Town Hall's Social Welfare Department will be held at the educational centres of the municipality until 10th March.
