THE FIRST EDITION OF THE UNDER 7 AND UNDER 12 SANTA PONÇA CUP FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT WILL START ON 23RD MARCH WHICH WILL COUNT ON THE PARTICIPATION OF THE BEST RESERVES OF YOUNG PLAYERS OF THE ISLAND AND THE PENINSULA
The first edition of the Santa Ponça Cup Football Tournament for under 7 and under 12 year-old-players has been presented today, which will count on the participation of important reserves of young players from the island and the peninsula, and which will be held in Santa Ponça (Calvià) from 23rd to 27th March 2016.
At the presentation, one of the directors of the sporting event, Tomás Gibert, explained that such representative teams as Atco de Madrid, Vila-real, Seville, Cordoba, R.C.D. Mallorca, Atco Baleares, San Francisco, S.D. La Salle, CIDE, Penya Arrabal, Son Caliu, Santa Ponça, etc. will participate in the tournament.
The Mayor of Calvià Alfonso Rodríguez Badal trusts that this tournament will consolidate in a municipality in which it is betting firmly for sport, also for sport at junior levels, and for the binomial tourism-sport as a differentiated product in the tourist offer.
For his part, the president of the Balearic Football Federation, Miquel Bestard, stressed the importance of giving the minors the opportunity to participate in a tournament of this characteristics.
The presentation ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Mayor for Sports and International Community, Eva Serra; the general director of Sports, Marcos Pecos, and the manager of the Institut Calvianer de l'Esport, Antoni Sitges.
The presentation of the tournament will be held on Wednesday 23rd March in the afternoon and the start of the competition will be on Thursday 24th March in the morning. It will count on the participation of 16 teams per category and it will start previously with a group stage composed of 4 teams per group. Subsequently, depending on the team's classifications, a final phase or a consolation phase will be played. Each participating team will play a minimum of 4 matches.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Saturday 26th March and the finals will be played on Sunday 27th March at midday with the subsequent awards and closing ceremony of the tournament.
