Calvià hosts 400 walkers participating in the first edition
CALVIÀ HOSTS 400 HIKERS PARTICIPATING IN THE FIRST EDITION OF THE MALLORCA WALKING EVENT
The organizers announced that by 2017 it will double the number of participants
Calvià hosts from Thursday morning and until Sunday more than 400 European hikers on the occasion of the first edition of the MALLORCA WALKING EVENT which is held in Peguera and other locations of the municipality.
The more than 400 registered walkers, mostly from Holland, will tour the 4 mixed urban and mountain routes of between 20 and 30 kilometres that the organization has designed to value the natural, historical and scenic heritage of the municipality.
The participants will perform four routes of between 20 and 30 km each through different places always in the municipality of Calvià.
In the presentation, which was also attended by Dutch journalists, the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, appreciated the involvement in this event of the departments of Tourism and Sports of the Town Hall as well as the Hoteliers Association of Peguera and the organizers of the event. Alfonso Rodríguez Badal pointed out that with the organization of the Mallorca Walking Event the objective of Calvià of the binomial sport-tourism and nature-tourism, and fighting against the tourist seasonal standstill is being covered. In addition, he added, it will be an opportunity to let know other environment of the municipality (the inner landscape) beyond just looking at the sea.
The President of the hoteliers of Peguera, Antonio Mayol, highlighted the success that means to achieve 400 participants the first year, a figure that will double next year, as assured the organizer of the Mallorca Walking Event, Pedro Oliver, Galben Travel & Bussiness events director, who also announced the interest to participate next year of German, Danish and Belgian tour operators.
The presentation event was also attended by the Deputy Mayor for Sports and International Community, Eva Serra; Andre Van der Last, director of international events; and Jos Morren, director of groups of the Dutch tour operator OAD.
