CALVIÀ EXPOSES IN MADRID THE PROJECT 'CALVIÀ INTELLIGENT MUNICIPALITY' TO GET JOINT FINANCING OF THE EU THROUGH RED.ES

The Mayor has defended the initiative which has received the tourist, business and citizen support

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has travelled to Madrid along with the Deputy Mayor for Economy, Employment and Innovation, M. Carmen Iglesias, to expose the Calvià Intelligent Municipality project before the instructor body and the evaluation commission of the Programme Smart Cities of the Digital Agenda for Spain.

The Mayor noted that "Calvià has to win in modernity and innovation in order to be tourism leaders again and encourage the citizen participation and the electronic administration. Mobile applications will offer our visitors all the information they want and they will give us in turn the necessary information to improve our destination and our promotion in each source country. The technological innovation is also quality, and we want to be a tourist destination and a municipality renowned for its quality ".

The purpose of this audience is to get co-financing from the Feder Funds of the European Union, through the Programme that the Red.es body of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism manages in Spain.

This is the procedure that has been established for all the municipalities that have submitted candidature, amongst which is Calvià. The amount of the project is 2.8 million euros in two years, of which 400.000 are provided each year by the Town Hall. Amount that is already considered in the budgets of 2016 to start the planned actions.

Calvià intelligent municipality expects to improve the life quality not only of the citizenship but also of visitors, through the new technologies, in a sustainable development and environmentally friendly environment. For its candidacy, it has gathered the support of the tourist, business and citizen sector.

The actions set out in the project are structured in 4 areas: Tourism, Citizenship, eGovernment and energy efficiency and environment. Includes actions such as: APP Smart Destination so that the visitor gets via web and App all the information that Calvià offers; wifi on beaches and walking paths; control of spaces occupied in municipal parkings; noise mention and elaboration of a noise map; quality control of bathing water in real time; or control of the containers filling, amongst others.

The presentation started at 11 a.m., at the headquarters of Red.es of Madrid, and has had a duration of about 50 minutes.
