Calvià 2nd September 2016

THE CALVIÀ TOWN HALL AND THE HOTEL ASSOCIATIONS OF THE MUNICIPALITY SIGN AGREEMENTS TO FACILITATE A RAPID AND PROVISIONAL ACCOMMODATION TO INDIVIDUALS OR FAMILIES FORCED TO LEAVE THEIR HABITUAL RESIDENCE

The aim of this pioneering initiative is to give a quick response to cases of evictions, serious family conflicts or loss of the habitual residence that occur in the municipality.

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has signed cooperation agreements with the hotel associations of Palmanova-Magaluf, Santa Ponça, Peguera-Cala Fornells, Illetes-Cas Català and Portals Nous-Bendinat, to attend social emergency situations where it is required an immediate and temporary accommodation of those families who are forced to leave their habitual residence for various reasons, and have no possibility of alternative accommodation by their own means.

The Hotel associations will provide -through their associated establishments- immediate and provisional accommodation to the families, after the assessment carried out by the Town Hall's Social Services. The hotel establishment will apply a minimum discount of 60%, and the Town Hall will pay the accomodation as an aid granted to the family. The Town Hall's Social Services will immediately establish a work Plan with the family in order to regain its autonomy.

The beneficiary individuals or families will be those who have been forced to leave their habitual housing because of evictions, foreclosures or expropriation records; serious family conflict that threatens the physical or emotional safety of people; loss of the habitual residence, or municipal declaration of imminent physical ruin of the building in which the habitual residence is located.

These agreements are framed within Calvià Town Hall's commitment, included in the investiture's agreement, to achieve the status of "zero poverty" in the municipality. In the same vein, last April, the Town Hall signed an agreement with Endesa to guarantee power supply to the most vulnerable families of the municipality, it also has a Legal Advice Service on housing to avoid reaching emergency situations. You can access this service by requesting an appointment with Social Services.

The Mayor has thanked the hotel associations the involvement and willingness to work together to carry out this social project.

On behalf of the hotel associations, the agreements were signed by: Sebastián Darder (president of the Hoteliers Association of Palmanova-Magaluf), Antonio Roses (president of the Bahía de Santa Ponça Hotel Association), Antonio Mayol (president of the Hotel Association of Peguera - Cala Fornells) Martín Xamena and Manuel Sánchez (president and vice president of the Hotel Association of Illetes and Cas Català) and María del Mar Soler (president of the Hotel Association of Portals Nous – Bendinat).

The signing event was also attended by the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés; the Councillor for Social Welfare, Mayte Albertí; the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Antonio García Moles, and the director general of Social Development and Equity, Ana Pérez.
