Calvià joins the awareness campaign promoted by the Consell de Mallorca
Both, the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés, attended the presentation of "Històries del català" that goes through the villages of Mallorca with the testimony of 37 protagonists.
The Department of Culture of the Consell de Mallorca and the Directorate General of Linguistic Policy promote the project "Històries del català", an awareness campaign on the benefits of learning the Catalan language as a tool for social and cultural integration. The initiative counts in Mallorca with the involvement of 20 municipalities and a total of 37 testimonies of people who one day came to live in Mallorca and that, for very different reasons, have decided to learn Catalan.
The campaign, originally born in the Insular Council of Formentera, counts currently with the participation of all the Insular Councils and with the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands. The Servei de Normalització Lingüística del Consell de Mallorca, through the area of Dinamització Lingüística, has been responsible for coordinating the task on our island and involving the municipalities. It has been through them, that the research and selection of the protagonists, of varied profiles, has been able to be done.
"Històries del català" consists of a series of personal interviews to the protagonists, which are reflected in short videos, and a photo session in an identifiable point of the village. Videos can be viewed on the website http://www.historiesdelcatala.org/ and will be broadcast through local radios and televisions and cinemas. In addition, posters and advertisements will be published for the local press.
The presentation event at the Centre de Cultura la Misericordia was attended by the First Vice- President and Regional Minister of Culture, Francesc Miralles, the Director General of Linguistic Policy, Marta Fuxà, the Insular Director of Culture, Rafel M. Creus, the President of the Felib, Joan Carles Verd, mayors of different municipalities Calvià, Sóller, ..., councillors and technicians of linguistic revitalisation of around the twenty municipalities of Mallorca that have joined the project (Palma, Calvià, Puigpunyent, Esporles, Bunyola, Sóller, Manacor, Felanitx, Santanyí, Sencelles, Santa Eugènia, Santa Maria, Alaró, Mancor, Petra, Son Servera, Alcúdia, Artà, Pollença and Sa Pobla) and some of the protagonists of these "Històries del català" in Mallorca.
