Wednesday 7th December 2016

THE AGREEMENT SIGNED BETWEEN THE TOWN HALL AND FIBWI WILL BREAK THE DIGITAL DIVIDE WITH CALVIÀ VILLAGE AND ES CAPDELLÀ

The company will bring ultra-fast broadband to the municipality, including the two Calvian villages that still do not have this coverage.

The Calvià Town Hall and FIBWI have signed an agreement according to which the company, within its coverage plan of Mallorca, will carry out the deployment of optical fiber to offer its ultrafast broadband services in the municipality of Calvià.

This agreement will allow, on the one hand, to expand the broadband offer for the citizens of Calvià, and on the other hand, to bring this technology to the villages of Calvià and es Capdellà that do not have this service by any other operator. In addition, it will allow the fiber connection of several municipal offices.

The agreement establishes that the Town Hall will allow the use of the conduits available throughout the municipality for FIBWI to install the fiber optic cables needed to give service to the entire municipality. The use of this municipal infrastructure will not be on an exclusive basis.

The forecast is that in early 2019 it will be operational in all areas. According to the established schedule, in the first half of 2017 it would be underway in Costa d'en Blanes and the Son Bugadelles industrial estate; in the second half, in es Capdellà and Calvià village; in 2018 in el Toro, Palmanova and Magaluf; and in early 2019 in Peguera, Santa Ponça, Son Ferrer, Son Caliu and Portals Nous.

With regards to the commissioning of the municipal offices, it is expected that at the end of 2016 it will give service to the headquarters of Palmanova (Municipal Tourist Information Office, nursery, Transport Interchanger and the roundabout's camera), Son Caliu (swimming-pool and es Generador); the first semester of 2017 to the headquarters of Magaluf (athletics track, OMIT, sports centre, nursery and IFOC) and Calvià village (maintenance building and sports centre); and the first half of 2018 to the offices of Santa Ponça (OMIT and social services), Peguera (OMIT), Bendinat (nursery and swimming-pool) and es Capdellà (environmental office). FIBWI will install a fiber optic network that will link these municipal offices.

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, headed the signing of the agreement signed by the Deputy Mayor for Economy, Employment and Innovation, M. Carmen Iglesias, and the FIBWI Administrator, Pedro Rafael Blanes Servera.
