The Mayor meets with the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands to talk about the Intelligent Islands Congress to be held in Calvià on 20th and 21st April

THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ MEETS WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE BALEARIC ISLANDS TO TALK ABOUT THE SMART ISLAND WORLD CONGRESS
Calvià will be the permanent headquarters of the congress organised by Fira de Barcelona and sponsored by the Ajuntament and the Consell de Mallorca
Professionals and leading innovation companies of islands around the world will participate in the congress
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, met this morning with the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Francina Armengol, to discuss the Smart Island World Congress to be held in Calvià, on 20th and 21st April 2017, becoming permanent headquarters of the international congress.
In statements to the reporters, the Mayor stressed the importance of holding a conference of these characteristics in Mallorca and more specifically in Calvià, and be the world headquarters of a meeting in which professionals and leading companies at international level will expose experiences and novelties that unite innovation with the management of island territories in terms of energy efficiency, environment, waste and connectivity, and aspects closely linked to the tourist economy.
He explained that is expected the attendance of about 1,500 people from islands around the world and that it will be a major impact for both Mallorca and the Balearic Islands, and, specifically, for a destination such as Magaluf that is in full restructuring process. It is a very interesting bet, he said, to put the stamp of innovation in Magaluf where years ago the image was very different.
Alfonso Rodríguez Badal thanked the interest of the president, as well as the support of the Consell de Mallorca, and the organisation of Fira de Barcelona, as a guarantee of prestige.
For his part, the Manager Director of Economy and Finance of the Consell de Mallorca, Cosme Bonet, has noted the ideal moment in which is celebrated to position the island as the leader of the Smart Island destination, and the opportunity to promote innovative projects for the diversification of the economy.
The meeting was also attended by the Calvià Town Hall's Deputy Mayor for Economy, Employment and Innovation, Mari Carmen Iglesias, as well as the Manager Director of Modernització i Funció Pública (Modernisation and Public Service) of the Consell, María del Carmen Palomino, and the representative of Fira de Barcelona, Ricard Zapatero.
