72 CALVIÀ SPORTSPEOPLE RECEIVE THE 2016 BED PLAN GRANTS
In this edition, the budget line item has increased by 80%
Almost half of the applications correspond to women's sports
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Deputy Mayor for Sports and International Community, Eva Serra, have presented the Bed Plan grants (Elite Sportspeople Scholarships) to the 72 athletes who have applied for the 2016 call and who have obtained the points to obtain the aid.
The Calvià Town Hall has increased the 2016 budget line item by 80% compared to the 2015 call, from 25,000 euros to 45,000, due to the increase of grant applications, and to the fact that have been incorporated as eligible applicants both those athletes who participated in the Rio Olympic Games and the athletes who previously were receiving support through the signing of agreements and could not access these grants.
This line of subsidies is therefore intended to help those athletes who are in the process of training and / or technification and who stand out in the sport they practice, but also those who already have a prominent curriculum, such as Olympic athletes or those athletes competing at a state, European or global level.
In this edition, 47% of the applications corresponded to women's sport, a data which was stressed by the Mayor highlighting the work that is carried out by the Institut Calvianer de l'Esport (ICE) to promote gender equal opportunities in sport and fill a gap that also exists in the field of sport.
Another important data is that almost all of the 72 applications - 94% - are equivalent to sportspeople who practice individual sports, with the Stand Up Paddel being the most representative amongst all sport modalities, which highlights the importance of water sports in a municipality such as Calvià.
74 applications were submitted in the 2016 edition, compared to 56 in 2015 and 21 in 2014.
For her part, the Deputy Mayor for Sports and International Community, Eva Serra, highlighted the intense work of dissemination that the technical area of ICE has made to reach more athletes, increasing the subsidised by almost 50%.
