K42MALLORCA
The 5th edition of K42Mallorca arrives with a new and more mountainous route.
The event has an excellent line up of professional runners led by Casey Morgan, Michelle Maier, Jordi Gamito or the local Miquel Capó
More than 600 trail runners will participate on Sunday 19th March in the 5th edition of K42Mallorca, the international trail running event that takes place in the municipality of Calvià.
The Galatzó public estate will be the gateway to the two races that make up the event, the legendary mountain marathon (K42) and the middle mountain marathon (K21).
The fifth edition is marked by an important change that implies an almost total rethinking of the event. The rains of Autumn and Winter in Mallorca have caused that some of the sections of the habitual event's circuit were impracticables for the race. In order to ensure the maximum safety of the participants, the organisation worked intensively on an alternative circuit. This change of circuit implies amongst others the following novelties:
The race this year will not end in the town of Peguera but will do so in the village of es Capdellà, specifically in the plaça de sa Vinya.
The K42 and K21 route will pass almost entirely between the Galatzó estate and the peaks of s'Esclop, es Galatzó and les Planes. Therefore, the event adds more kilometres of mountain and also a greater positive slope. Therefore, the participants are facing a true challenge of trail running tougher than in previous editions.
Development K42
As for the development of the main event, participants will ascend 11.5 km to crown es Galatzó (1027 m), from there they will face a technical descent towards es Boal de ses Serveres direction to sa Coma d'en Vidal to crown s 'Esclop, the summit is approximately at km 20 of the race. Another descent will lead the participants towards es Pas des Cossis to ascend again from es Boal de ses Serveres to Pas de Na Sabatera. From there, runners will head towards the Comellar de ses Sínies, direction to ses Planes, where they will face the last great gap, ses Planes (450 m), to leave the Galatzó Estate and reach the finish line, located in the centre of the village of es Capdellà , specifically in the plaça de sa Vinya.
Development K21
The K21 circuit departs from the estate of Galatzó and heads towards es Comellar de ses Sínies, and from there ascension to es Galatzó, without reaching the summit, to continue by the Boal de ses Serveres, and sa Coma del Vidal, from there the return starts leaving the estate of Galatzó to reach the finish line of es Capdellà.
In addition to the high participation, another incentive of the event is to have the presence of some of the best local, national and international athletes of the specialty. Some of the most outstanding are: Casey Morgan, Michelle Maier, Jordi Gamito, Alejandro Fraguela, or the locals Miquel Capó and Manel Rullan.
K42Mallorca is part of the prestigious organisation of K42series mountain trail races being one of the scoring trials for the Ultra Trail of Mont-Blanc.
The event is organised by Calvià Town Hall, the Hotel Association of Peguera and Cala Fornells and the company Projectes i Execucions Balears (organisation of sporting events), with the support of the Balearic Tourism Agency of the Government of the Balearic Islands.
