THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE POTENTIAL BREEDING POINTS OF MOSQUITOES THROUGH THE AIR WILL ALLOW TO PROGRAMME THE ADEQUATE PREVENTIVE CONTROL OF THE TEMPORALLY FLOODED ZONES OF CALVIÀ

-Municipal technicians of the Natural and Urban Environment Service did a reconnaissance flight

Municipal technicians of the Natural and Urban Environment Service, through Lokímica, - awarded company for the pest control of Calvià, have done a helicopter flight of reconnaissance and identification of potential breeding points of mosquitoes in the municipality, as well as the search for possible larval habitats in areas where in previous years a greater number of citizen incidents have been recorded.

The flight took place on the Magaluf Marina area (next to the athletics track) and wet areas around it, as well as on the Santa Ponça Golf area and the wet zone next to the Yacht Club of Santa Ponça.

Identification and geolocation of potential breeding sites through the air will allow to programme the proper preventive control of temporarily flooded areas. This control shall be carried out from the ground in the case of wetlands of relatively small size.

With this type of actions it is intended the control of first generations of mosquitoes by preventing the closure of its biological cycle and thus preventing adult mosquitoes from laying new eggs.

From the Natural and Urban Environment Service, neighbours are reminded of the importance of having private pools in proper condition (properly treated or completely empty) as well as private places with water reservoirs such as water tanks, etc. to prevent them from becoming breeding grounds, since they constitute an important mosquito breeding site.

On the other hand, indicate that in the wetlands of permanent water of the municipality there are larvivorous fish, which feed on the mosquito larvae and that constitute a biological control for the proliferation of these insects in permanent water areas.
