CALVIÀ CELEBRATES THE WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
The school centres that participated in the Agenda Local 21 workshops have presented the results of their works at the School Forum
Coinciding with the celebration of World Environment Day, the students who participated in the Agenda Local 21 workshops have presented at the School Forum the results of their work during the course, as well as the development of their school project with the actions foreseen within the Centre's Environmental Improvement Plan. The Forum has taken place in the Casal de Peguera and has been attended by the Calvià Town Hall's councillors Antonio García Moles, Nati Francés and Francisca Muñoz.
Ses Quarterades school explained in the Forum the project "Ses Quarterades que m'agraden" promoted by the OCB in which the AMIPA and volunteers also participate. The project contemplates the cleaning and recovery of the native vegetation and the planting of Mallorcan tree varieties in a space of municipal ownership near the school. The students in fourth year of primary education have worked on the native plant species of the Serra de Tramuntana and have presented at the Forum their project that will continue during the next course.
The students of the CEIP Puig de sa Ginesta have exposed the situation of their project of conditioning an outdoor space of the playground that is currently without vegetation to make a gardened area with native plants. For its part, the CEIP Xaloc is interested in the Euronet 50/50 project on energy efficiency and savings in school and explained its implementation for the next course, to save and improve the use of energy in the school centre.
Finally, the CEIP Jaume I has presented the project "Milloram el nostre centre" which consists of a series of actions that the students weekly perform in small groups to improve on coexistence issues during the break time, the centre's recycling and care of gardens and school spaces. Students have badges in which they let others know the assigned tasks they have to develop throughout the day.
SCHOOL AGENDA LOCAL 21
The School Local Agenda (Agenda Local 21) is a process based on participation that seeks to promote a plan of action aimed at achieving sustainable development in the school community. Its purpose is to review approaches and practices, as well as material and organisational aspects of the centre. It begins with a diagnosis of the elements involved in the sustainability concept (water, energy, transport, etc.) and culminates with the drafting and subsequent implementation of a plan of action where a series of short, medium and long term objectives are established. In parallel, environmental awareness workshops are held in the schools.
25 environmental education workshop sessions were held during the 2016-2017 school year, aimed at students in third cycle of primary education in the participating school centres: CEIP Ses Quarterades, CEIP Xaloc, CEIP Jaume I and CEIP Puig de sa Ginesta. The workshops aim to raise awareness and educate students in environmental, sustainability and climate change aspects. The final objective is to design and implement the Environmental Improvement Plan of the Centre and participate in the School Forum at the end of the course. The company GRAM held the workshops.
