This year, the 'Let's Clean Up Europe' programme's actions have tripled

FROM MARCH TO JUNE, ALMOST 4,000 KG OF WASTE HAS BEEN COLLECTED ON THE CALVIÀ COASTLINE WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE 'LET'S CLEAN UP EUROPE' PROGRAMME
This year the programme's actions have tripled
The Calvià coastline cleaning actions, of the 'Let's Clean Up Europe' programme, have involved, from March to June, the collection of a total of 3,918 kg of waste in different parts of the municipality. In addition to the cleaning actions included in the Clean Up Europe, there have been other cleaning activities not included in this programme, and in total have been recovered from the sea, so far this year, 4 498 kg of waste, including plastics, containers, rejection, iron, etc.
The last coastline cleaning action registered in the 'Clean Up Europe' programme for the 2017 season was carried on 20th June, where a total of 53 students and 5 teachers from the IES Juníper Serra participated, in addition to the staff of Calvià 2000, with the coordination of the Natural and Urban Environment Department, and the Hotel Trópico, giving students pieces of fruit and water.
In this last action, a coastline cleaning action at Punta Nadala beach in Palmanova was combined with an environmental education programme "Acosta't a la costa" offered from the Natural and Urban Environment Department, where they discovered the secrets of the Mediterranean Sea and the importance of taking care and respecting our coastline and especially the habitat of Posidonia oceanica.
The 'Clean Up Europe' programme, is a common action throughout Europe to raise awareness about the amount of waste we dispose uncontrollably in nature and promote the collection of waste illegally dumped in forests, beaches, river banks, etc. This year, the 'Clean Up Europe' began on 1st March until 30th June.
A total of 4 actions registered in this project were carried out in 2016, however this year the actions have tripled, having been carried out a total of 11 actions in the municipality of Calvià, of which 10 have been organised by the Department of Natural and Urban Environment of Calvià Town Hall in addition to Calvià 2000 and civil protection, with the collaboration of several entities, associations and diving clubs, such as Palma Diving, Big Blue Diving, Protema, Isurus Cruz roja, Port Adriano, the hotel association of Palmanova-Magaluf, hotel Son Matias Beach, hotel Hawaii Palmanova & Suite, hotel Trópico, hotel Son Caliu, Ies Bendinat and Ceip Son Ferrer, amongst others.
The cleaning actions and the recovery of our natural environment will continue in September.
