CALVIÀ TOWN HALL WILL INVEST THIS YEAR 4.5 MILLION EUROS IN THE IMPROVEMENT OF RESIDENTIAL AREAS AND AREAS AND INFRASTRUCTURES THAT FOR YEARS HAVE NOT HAD AN INTEGRAL MAINTENANCE

These are sustainable investments from the 2016 surplus

Calvià Town Hall will have this year 4,500,000 euros for financially sustainable investments that will be allocated to claimed actions that will respond to urgent needs of residents, and which respond to two lines of action:

The majority of investments will be made in residential areas that do not have the investments of tourist areas

The performance in areas that have not had maintenance investments in previous years

Almost half of the sustainable investments (€ 2,000,000) will be allocated to the embellishment Plan of the areas of Costa de la Calma, Son Ferrer and Galatzó with interventions for the preservation of roads, green areas, curbs, sidewalks, lighting, street furniture, or improvements in traffic and parking, amongst others.

Improvements will be made in various streets of Torrenova which are narrow and whose sidewalks and driveways are aged or deteriorated. The sidewalks and the roadway will be left at the same level with separation elements for the safety of pedestrians. Trees will be planted in holes and new street lamps with led technology will be placed.

Greco street, located in the area of Magaluf, will also be improved with the construction of a sidewalk in the part where there is only a small embankment with a metal fence. In addition, lighting will be improved with the installation of 16 lampposts and the whole street will be paved.

Another action that will be carried out is the reform of the shed located next to the old pétanque courts, at the Galatzó residential area, next to the IES Calvià, to become a self-managed youth centre. The different spaces will be designed to achieve a better use of the plot and the access will be improved, both in pavement and lighting.

The athletics track will be another of the infrastructures to be improved with sustainable investments this year, with the replacement of the tartan, the synthetic pavement that is deteriorated.

In Santa Ponça will be carried out the comprehensive reform of the municipal nursery, located in Gran Via Puig Blanc street, one of the first that were built in the municipality and that has never had a comprehensive repair.

The Santa Ponça sports centre's playground will also be improved with the repair and renovation of some elements of the playground and the pavement, as well as the creation of shadows and resting spaces for the companions. Also, an item will be allocated for the children's playground in Paquita Revert square in Galatzó.

In addition, an old building in Costa de la Calma and the old building where the Civil Guard was located, in Miquel dels Sants Oliver street in Palmanova, will be renovated so that the unit can be used for municipal services and neighborhood entities, in the first case, since the area does not have such premises, and for municipal services and the headquarters of Radio Taxi, in the second.

In order to approve the incorporation of remnants, the 2016 surplus that will allow to carry out the investments of these 4,500,000 euros, an Extraordinary Plenary has been called for the forthcoming Monday 17th July, after the approval a few days ago of the General State Budget.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has regreted that "the State Government does not allow a greater autonomy of the municipalities in the use of the surplus, and only allows the expenditure of a part of this surplus for a very determined type of investment, and not for new infrastructures very necessary in this municipality, for the promotion of employment, for social services or for new educational infrastructures ".
