CALVIÀ CELEBRATES THE FIRST 25 YEARS OF THE PROGRAMME CALVIÀ, INVIERNO EUROPEO
The Calvià Town Hall commemorated yesterday afternoon the 25th anniversary of the start-up of one of the most veteran deseasonalising tourist promotion programmes: Calvià, invierno europeo.
The ceremony began with a welcoming speech by the deputy mayor for Tourism, Antonio García Moles, who expressed his gratitude to all the people who made this programme possible and to all those who have given it continuity. After García Moles, Antoni Pallicer intervened, who was, as deputy mayor for Tourism, responsible for creating the programme that this year celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary. Pallicer also wanted to have recognition for the hoteliers, hotel employees and officials of Calvià Town Hall who helped in the start-up of the programme in its beginnings, especially for Javier Bustamante and the former mayoress Margarita Nájera who attended the event.
After the two interventions, a video which was made on the occasion of the event was shown, in which images of the beginning of the programme until today could be seen, with different interventions from people with some kind of connection to the initiative.
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, closed the event by placing value on the programme Calvià, invierno europeo because it was an opportunity to keep Calvià open in winter. The Mayor spoke about the challenges that lie ahead and the need to address threats (connectivity, mobility, waste management, environment problems, ...), and know how to manage opportunities.
He emphasised Calvià's vocation for leadership, not only as a benchmark, but also for the importance of public-private collaboration to tackle all the challenges that lie ahead, while emphasising the need for public-private commitment to return to the environment what the environment offers us.
At the end, an aperitif was served to the guests of the event, among which were members of the Municipal Corporation, as well as those responsible for the Hotel Associations of Calvià and representatives of the tourist field of the municipality.
