THE MALLORCA WALKING EVENT BRINGS A THOUSAND HIKERS TO CALVIÀ
The activity is divided into four routes that run along pathways and trails of Peguera and other areas of the municipality.
The mayor of Calvià emphasises that the commitment to this type of tourism makes the municipality a destination that offers other alternative experiences to sun and beach.
About a thousand people will walk on pathways and trails of Calvià in the third edition of the Mallorca Walking Event 'La Primavera', which is held from tomorrow until 15th April in Peguera and other areas of the municipality, and which has been presented today at the headquarters of the Vice Presidency of the Government of the Balearic Islands, with the attendance of the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the manager of l'Agència de Turisme de les Illes Balears (ATB), Jaume Alzamora; the president of the Hotel Association of Peguera and Cala Fornells, Antonio Mayol, and the Galben Tours events director, Pedro Oliver.
About a thousand foreign hikers, coming mainly from Holland and Belgium, will tour during four days Peguera and other areas of Calvià through marked routes that allow participants to enjoy the beautiful landscape, environment and climate of Mallorca. This is a sports event that aims to position Peguera as a tourist-sports destination in the middle season, in addition to highlight the natural heritage of the municipality of Calvià.
The Mayor of Calvià has pointed out that the bet of the municipality for the binomial tourism-sport, allows to boost the different areas in the middle and low season, since it offers alternative experiences to the sun and beach, and allows to make known the spectacular natural spaces the resort has. For Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, the growing participation in this event, year after year, shows the success of putting on the market a new offer for a specific segment of tourism.
According to the event director of Galben Tours, Pedro Oliver, Mallorca Walking Event has experienced an annual growth of 30% of participants and allows that in an area such as Peguera, on the dates after Easter, there is a hotel occupation above 90%.
The director of the ATB, Jaume Alzamora, has highlighted the importance of giving support to this type of initiatives that help to give a differentiated and quality product out of the high season.
On his part, the president of the Hotel Association of Peguera and Cala Fornells, Antonio Mayol, recalled that Peguera is one of the tourist areas that open before and close later in the season.
Mallorca Walking Event is divided into four routes that run along paths that will captivate all nature lovers and will allow participants to discover a different Mallorca: charming villages, beautiful beaches of the Mallorcan coast or the impressive Serra de Tramuntana, declared World Heritage by the UNESCO. The event, which has no competition nature, is an opportunity for those who visit the island and seek to enjoy an active holiday and walk in good company.
Each route is divided into routes of 30, 20 and 12.5 kilometres so that each participant can choose the option they prefer. The departure will be at 9 o'clock every day from the Torà square in Peguera, where the arrival of each distance is also located. There will be medical assistance and refreshment points along each route, while at the end of each route there will be a leisure event with no shortage of music or entertainment.
