VISIT TO THE WORKS OF THE OLD HOTEL JAMAICA IN MAGALUF
The mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has visited the works that are being carried out in the old Jamaica hotel in Magaluf which is scheduled to reopen its doors, completely renovated, next June after remaining closed for 10 years. The mayor has been accompanied by the deputy mayor for Urbanism, Marcos Pecos; the Magaluf councillor, Alfonso Molina; and the general director of Tourism of the Ajuntament, Joan Mesquida.
According to information provided by the property of the hotel, Melià Hotels International, the complex will open in July with a clear vocation to support the repositioning of the resort, complementing its hotel, commercial and leisure quality offer. The works have generated 850 direct jobs, while the hotel will consolidate 130 direct jobs from its opening. The Calviá Beach The Plaza hotel, which from July will replace the old Jamaica, will be an example of avant-garde hotel architecture, which in addition to an innovative design and the optimisation of its spaces, will improve the accessibility and pedestrian circulation of the area, approaching it to the first beach line, by allowing the connection between S'Olivera and Avenida de Magaluf streets. As a symbol and icon of the transformation of the destination, furthermore, Meliá has wanted to install between the roofs of two of the buildings a huge hanging pool, unique of its characteristics in Europe.
