CALVIÀ AT THE SMART ISLAND WORLD CONGRESS
The municipality of Calvià was present at the Smart Island World Congress 2018 with the stand of the Town Hall and with the participation in the round tables that were held throughout the two days of the congress.
Mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal participated as a speaker at the round table 'Islands as smart sustainable destinations', moderated by the curator of Smart City Expo World Congress, Pilar Conesa, and which counted on the interventions of the vice-mayoress of La Possession (La Réunion), Marie- Françoise Lun-Sin Lambert; the mayoress of Cosumel (Mexico), Perla Cecilia Tun Pech; the president of Segittur, Fernando de Pablo Martín; and the general director of TIRME, Rafael Guinea Mairlot.
The 'Innovations that drive the tourism industry' round table moderated by the deputy mayor for Economy, Employment and Innovation, Mari Carmen Iglesias, counted on the participation of Foteini Fagkou, deputy mayor for Tourism of Karpathos Town Hall (Greece); Francisco Huidobro, director of Digital Services of Orange España; Rafael Matas, of Melià Hotels; Marc García-Durán Huet, executive president and founder of Underwater Gardens International, and José Mañas, CEO of Wireless DNA SL.
The 'Smart islands strategies in action' round table, which was moderated by the first deputy mayor of Calvià Town Hall, Andreu Serra, counted on the participation of Joe Dignan, founder of Kintechi Ltd; Carmen Palomino, the insular councillor for Modernisation and Public Service of the Consell de Mallorca; the councillor for Economy, Finance and Innovation, Adrián García, and the technician of El Hierro Island Council, Javier Núñez Casanovas.
In the 'Smart Islands: the way forward' round table, the general director of Tourism of Calvià Town Hall, Joan Mesquida was in charge of moderating the speakers' interventions: Luís Gerardo Rivera Marín, State Secretary of the State of Puerto Rico; Pastor Micha Ondo Bile, from the Government of Equatorial Guinea; Richard Gómez, Mayor of Ormoc City (Philippines), and Miguel Ángel Moratinos, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Spain.
Finally, the Head of the Department of Natural and Urban Environment of Calvià Town Hall, Eduardo Cózar, participated as speaker at the round table on Circular Economy and Sustainable Development, moderated by Bel Llodrà, of the BIT Foundation. Also participated, the programme director of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Christian Pleijel; the insular councillor for Environment of the Consell de Mallorca, Sandra Espeja; the project director of ACR +, Francesco Lembo; the general director of Environmental Education, Environmental Quality and Residues of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Sebastià Sansó, and Josep Lluís Cobos Ferrer of Sant Jordi, of Melchor Mascaró.
SIWC on the Radio
Throughout the two days of congress, Ràdio Calvià made its programming from the stand of the Town Hall, with live interviews and talk-shops of the representatives of the municipal groups that also went to the venue to discuss current issues of the municipality.
The Smart Island World Congress also travelled through the airwaves to all corners of Spain, with the programming made by the Cadena Ser from the Melià Calvià Beach hotel. Toni Garrido and his Hoy por Hoy team moved to Calvià, as did the team of Hoy por Hoy Mallorca, which also focused its programming on the Smart Island World Congress.
