The mayor of Calvià sends a letter to the delegate of the State Government to request her action

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has sent a letter to the delegate of the State Government, María Salom, requesting her action before situations that are taking place in the Punta Ballena area and that lead to situations that put at risk the security of citizens. The mayor conveys his concern and the need for redoubling efforts and attacking a problem that requires the intervention of the State security forces and that transcends the local level as it deals with mafias that traffic in the exploitation of women. In this sense, from the Town Hall a commission was created in 2016 to help people in prostitution in Calvià (MAPCAL), in which are represented the social services of the Town Hall, IBSALUD, IBDONA, Local Police, Civil Guard and the entities Cruz Roja, Médicos del Mundo and Casal Petit, to work in network with these people who are subject to mafias that control their activity.

The mayor of Calvià, also reiterates the request he has made in all meetings of the Local Security Board to the delegate of the Spanish State Government who is the one who has the competencies in matters of citizen security, to increase in a real way the device of the Civil Guard in the municipality, especially in the areas of nightlife, during the holiday season, to prevent conflicts for the sake of a good coexistence and avoid situations that may lead to altercations or more serious issues.

The Calvià Town Hall, from the first moment, is working in a clear direction: the change of model that exists in certain tourist zones, convinced that the booze and excesses tourism,
that some sectors that resist the change still defend, not only does not generate benefits for the municipality, but it causes conflicts in the streets. And in that sense, in the will of ending with this model, is where the municipal actions, that are being carried out with the improvement and change of the ordinances, their implementation and the periodic, objective and impartial control and inspection carried out by the Activities Committee and the Local Police of Calvià, such as the one that was recently carried out with the sealing order and the closure of the external facilities of the Pitiüsas square in Magaluf, which did not have a licence, progress.

The mayor concludes by asking the government delegate for an urgent meeting to address the issue, while reiterating the Town Hall's willingness, through its Local Police, to continue collaborating with the State's security forces and bodies, such as is being done on a regular basis.
