CALVIÀ COUNTS FROM THIS SCHOOL YEAR WITH A TEACHER TRAINING CENTRE IN ILLETES
Both, the Town Hall and the ministry of Education have signed the creation and management agreement so that the new premises can operate from 15th October
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the minister for Education and University, Martí March, signed this morning the collaboration agreement for the creation and management of the Teacher Training Centre of Calvià. The new centre will have the capacity to attend the permanent training of teachers from 63 centres in the areas of Calvià, Andratx, Banyalbufar, Bunyola, Deià, Esporles, Estellencs, Fornalutx, Puigpunyent, Sóller and Valldemossa, which up to now depended on the CEP of Palma.
The Mayor of Calvià has stressed that he shares the objectives of the Regional Ministry in improving public education, since, with the new Calvià centre, teachers and students from nearby schools will benefit. In the same line, minister March has highlighted the coordination between institutions to bring training centres closer to teachers and the need to carry out educational projects.
Calvià team is composed of five advisors, as well as an administrative and an office person. It is expected that as of 15th October, they can move to the premises that the Town Hall has lent for its operation, under the agreement signed this morning. This space is located at place 15 of the Paseo de Illetes, 4 in Calvià. The agreement provides that the Regional Ministry of Education and University is responsible for the provision of teaching and non-teaching staff necessary for the operation of the CEP, in addition to furniture and computer resources equipment. This provision of staff and material means an annual investment of more than 300 thousand euros.
With the incorporation of the new centre of Calvià, the Balearic Islands have, from this school year, 7 Teacher Training Centres: 4 in Mallorca (Calvià, Manacor, Inca and Palma) 1 in Menorca, 1 in Ibiza and 1 in Formentera.
Training teachers for innovation and educational success
The CEPs are teacher training centres by means of the revitalisation of permanent education in the professional practice context, especially by means of training in the same educational centres or network centres. It is to be stressed that, throughout this legislature, teacher training has been promoted and reoriented through the
2016-2020 Plan, working towards an innovative approach to teacher training with regards to what had been done so far in the Balearic Islands and with the intention of increasing the quality of the education system, both in the results and in the teaching-learning processes.
Basically, it is proposed that most of the training is done in schools, in a transversal way and involving all teachers; the training must have a practical purpose that ensures the transfer in the classrooms, and that the basic themes of the training, always including an inclusive vision, are those related to innovative learning methodologies (project work, educational environments and cooperative learning and holistic pedagogy) and those that promote the improvement of the climate of the classroom and the centre (emotional education, restorative practices and mediation and conflict resolution).
During the 2017-2018 academic year, more than 400 training programmes were carried out in centres in which around 7,300 teachers took part. 480 training programmes in centres are planned for the 2018-2019 academic year.
