CALVIÀ TOWN HALL SIGNS AN AGREEMENT WITH HIDROBAL AND ATERCA TO AVOID WATER SUPPLY CUTS TO PEOPLE IN A SITUATION OF ECONOMIC VULNERABILITY
The companies, in charge of the management of drinking water in the municipality, will create a solidarity fund to which people referred by the municipal Social Services can join
Calvià Town Hall has signed today two collaboration agreements with the companies Hidrobal and Aterca for the generation of aid and social measures associated with the municipal water supply service.
The mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the territorial director of Hidrobal and Aterca, Guillermo Carbonero, have signed these collaboration agreements consisting of an aid that will entail the hundred percent exemption of the water bill for those people who are in financial vulnerability, with the aim that people who find themselves in this situation do not suffer a cut in the water supply service for not being able to afford to pay their bills.
To do this, the two companies that manage the supply of drinking water in Calvià will create a solidarity fund with an annual allocation of 15.000 euros, by Hidrobal, and 5.000 euros, by Aterca, for two years, sunk costs. Aterca manages the supply to the areas of Peguera, Costa de la Calma and a part of Santa Ponça, while Hidrobal manages it in the rest of the municipality.
On its behalf, the Town Hall will assess the situations of economic vulnerability of Calvià residents who are in the process of social intervention, so that they can benefit from the aid. The information will be included in the notice letters.
The agreement signing event was attended by the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés, and the councillor for Social Development, M. Carmen Rojano.
This new line of collaboration with companies that manage essential services in the municipality is added to the agreement that was signed in May 2016 with Endesa. Calvià was the first municipality in the Balearic Islands to guarantee electricity supply to the most vulnerable families in the municipality, including information on municipal aid in the supply suspension notice letters received by the company's customers, in order to reach all those households that cannot afford to pay their bills.
