Calvià Town Hall fines with 161.000 euros a company that offered illegal party boats in Magaluf
The fine is established based on compliance with the excess tourism decree
Action against the illegal offer of illegal party boats in Calvià. The Local Police of the municipality has detected the advertising and tickets sale for boat parties. The transfer of clients for embarkation and disembarkation and the availability of alcoholic beverages on board have been verified. All this in Magaluf, an area included in the Decree-Law 1/2020, of 17th January, against excess tourism for the quality improvement in tourist areas. As a result of the police action, a sanctioning file has been initiated that has concluded with a fine of 161.000 euros for the company offering the party boats.
Juan Feliu —general director of Activities and Commerce, Offenses and Penalties, and Roads and Works— has confirmed that “this is a very serious offense that has resulted in the corresponding fine of 161.000 euros. It must be taken into account that the company has been surprised by the Local Police embarking clients on a boat equipped for sale. The evidence is irrefutable."
The Local Police officers' report describes how it was verified that around 130 people accessed the boat in a Magaluf jetty by paying an entrance fee of 45 euros per person. Part of the clients already showed obvious symptoms of drunkenness before boarding. Already on board, the sale of alcoholic beverages, blackboards with prices, beer shooters...is verifed. In the hold there are unlabeled bottles of alcohol and refilled plastic carboys. An amplified music equipment was also found to liven up the party.
For Feliu, the illegal offer of 'party boats' must be stopped «whether they occur in Calvià or in any other place, wether our municipality is origin or destination of these ethyl excursions. Our businesspeople from the tourism sector and their employees work very hard every day to maintain and improve the external image of Calvià. And we are not going to allow our municipality to identify itself with excess tourism.
