The next edition will include a great new category, Poetry in English bringing new content to the event
Since the end of April the department of culture has the information available for the "Rei en Jaume" awards '08. This yearly event has a new approach by way of the creation of a English poetry section. This brings an international flavour and opens the event up to a third language added to castellano and catalan. Furthermore new categories have been created to accomodate narrative and poetry in both of the official languages of the islands.
This event once again appears to be showcasing the cultural richness of these islands, and this year some 20.500 will be shared amongst the prize money for the new categories which are; Fine arts, Cómic, Research, Narrative in Castellano, Narrative in Catalan, Poetry in Castellano, Poetry in Catalan and Poetry in English. The biggest prize is for Fine Arts at 8.000 euros, whilst Fine arts Calvià wins 2.000 euros. The rest of the categories win 1500 euros, in addition to the publication of the work and 100 copies for the writer.
As from 1st July and up until 15th July the application period is open, in order to participate in the Rei en Jaume '08 awards. The name of the judging panel and the results of the contest will not be made public until prizegiving day which is Friday 29th August in the gardens of the Hotel H10 Punta Negra Resort.
