181 Foreign Citizens from Calvià complete the free Spanish /Castellano courses organised by Calvià Town Hall
The Major of Calvià, Carlos Delgado and the Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Foreign Residents, Kate Mentink, awarded diplomas to the 181 Foreign residents of Calvià that this acadmic year 2007/08 have taken part in and finished the free Spanish courses organised and financed by the Town Hall.
These courses were started in 2003/04, being a fulfillment of an electoral promise. The Government team are very please with the excellent uptake that the courses have had. In the first year some 190 pupils attended followed by 133 in 2003/05, 153 in 2005/06 and in the latest group 223 students.
This year the courses have taken place in Es Generador, Casal de Paguera, IFOC, Santa Ponça Cultural Centre and Bendinat school. Three different learning levels have been established according to ability. From the 181 students 104 attended the basic course, 62 intermediate and 15 advanced.
By nationality the leading group is British followed by German and a further mixture of some 16 different nationalities.
As well as classroom learning the students have taken part in various outdoor activities such as guided trips and workshops at La Granja. Various excursions and several different cultural activities regarding Calvià and its history, and a trip to a local market.
