An agreement has been signed from 2009 - 2012, stating that the local sportsman will promote the image of the municipality in all the competitions he takes part in

Calvià, sponsor of David Bustos.

The mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado, and the Calvian athlete, David Bustos González, today sign the sponsorship agreement by which the sportsman will display the image of the Town Hall and promote the municipality in all competitions he takes part in between 2009 and 2012. Having only recently turned 18, David Bustos is one of Mallorca's biggest hopes in the world of sport, and one of the most protected athletes both nationally and internationally. At the present time he holds the national record for 1.500 in covered track in his category, and also holds the best junior record throughout Spanish ranking in 800, 1.500 and 3.000m. for this season, together with the best junior sub17 record in Europe in 800 and 1.500 m.

The sponsorship agreement with David Bustos will last for 4 years between 2009 and 2012, when the next Olympic Games will take place in London. However, there will be a possibility of extending the agreement, if both parties wish to do so. Calvià Town Hall will contribute the sum of 50.000€ annually for the preparation of the athlete of Metalnox-ADA Calvià. In return, David Bustos has agreed to participate in the promotion of sport in schools and showing the importance of sport in the municipality, as well as promoting tourism in Calvia, by way of sport, in all the competitions he takes part in.

According to the signed agreement, the Town Hall will appear as his exclusive sponsor by way of his kit, documentation & advertising aids, the only exception being when he is competing for the Spanish national team, when this will be restricted as per regulations. Throughout the duration of the agreement, David Bustos will only be allowed one more sponsor, which will be the brand name of the supplier of his equipment.

For his part, the young Calvian athlete has agreed to arrange his sporting calendar in conjunction with the Calvià Town Hall, as well as with his trainer, Johny Ouriaghli, to continue with his studies (university or similar) throughout the length of the contract, thus promoting the image of the partnership between sport and studies. He has also agreed to avoid any potentially dangerous activities, and to behave correctly at all times, protecting his public image in accordance with the objectives of the agreement. In the case of long term injuries, the contract will be maintained, with the same conditions, up to a maximum of six months, after which the Town Hall will be at liberty to review the economic side of the contract in proportion to the length of the injury period or the year, which could lead to its resolution.

This agreement of sports sponsorship with the athlete David Bustos, fits in with the current policy of the Calvià Town Hall of promoting sport in the municipality, helping our elite sportsmen and women and, also, the promotion of sports in schools, not forgetting the knock-on effect this has on the promotion of tourism, an essential source of income for the municipality.

With reference to this, we would point out that in August of this year the Town Hall donated 156.000€ between 31 clubs, associations and sports organisers in the municipality, and distributed 15.000€ in grants to 49 local sportsmen and women, who were outstanding in 2007. Amongst them was David Bustos, himself.
