The enclosure, "Molino de Calvià", with capacity for 12.000 persons, tries to turn into a modal into this type of spaces into the Balearic community

Inaugurated Calvià's new fairground enclosure.

The mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado and the Minister for Commerce, Industry & Energy, Francesca Vives, inaugurate, this morning, the 1st phase of the building plan of the new events venue "Molino de Calvià" (Calvià Windmill), which is situated in the Galatzó urbanization.

This new events venue, with a capacity for 12.000 people, pretends to become a landmark in this field in the Balearic community, capable of hosting fairs and other events, promoting not only our own culture, but also acts which will help lengthen the holiday season and increase resort facilities on offer, for both residents & tourists.

The completion of this 1st phase incurred a total cost of 560.000€. This was financed by the European Union, by way of special funding, (50%), the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Energy (25%) and the remaining 25% by Calvià Town Hall.

The work carried out during the completion of this 1st phase provided the venue with basic facilities for the celebration of the various events which will take place there, with both security and comfort guaranteed.

This entailed the following:-

  • Closure of the perimeter of the area (more than 31.000 sq.mts.)

  • Creation of a concrete esplanade of 6.000 sq.mts. for the setting up of stands etc.

  • Cables for electricity & water

  • Drainage

  • Electrical installation and transformers

  • Installation of 8 lighting towers

  • Building of stage of 25 x 30 m.

  • Emergency exits

Existing installations in the area, such as skating and French bowls have been unaffected.

Finally, it must be stressed that the basic guidelines for the execution of this project have been the creation of a versatile venue. A safe venue which complies with all regulations for events held in the open air. And, finally, an all-purpose venue, in a suitable location.

Within the location, great care has been taken to conserve the trees planted there. They have been incorporated in the garden areas within the venue.
