The Town Hall and Federation of British Tour Operators have signed an agreement to promote the environmental quality system Travelife

Environmental quality in the tourist sector.

The Mayor of Calvià, Carlos Delgado, and the Director General of the Federation of British Tour Operators (FTO), Andrew Cooper, on 20th October signed a collaboration agreement to present, in the tourist establishments of the municipality who so wish, the System of Sustainability Travelife, award of environmental quality, created in 2007 to increase the environmental and social responsibility in the tourist sector, and, at the same time, respond to the growing demand for tourist products which are really sustainable.

Both the Calvià Town Hall and the Federation of British Tour Operators aim to participate in the development of tourism of both Calvià and the Balearics, improving in the best possible way their image in the eyes of the tourism source markets. Therefore, knowing that the Calvià Town Hall has always been closely linked with the Ministry of Sustainable Tourism, being a pioneering municipality in aiming the promotion of tourism at the new focus of the tourist market and deseasonalisation, both institutions have signed the agreement.

The FTO intends to introduce the Environmental Quality System Travelife to all tourist establishments of the municipality who wish to join. FTO is offering an assessment to any type of accommodation requesting this, then according to the results will award one of three types of classifications: the Travelife Gold, Silver or Bronze Award. The establishments obtaining this award will then be included in all brochures and sales outlets used by the tour operators.
