The Puig de Sa Morisca Early Childhood and Primary School —Santa Ponça, Calvià— will undergo a series of improvements worth 250.000 euros. The works will be managed and performed by the IMEB (Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries), an agency of Calvià Town Hall, thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Balearic Islands. This was announced on Friday by the mayor of the municipality, Juan Antonio Amengual, at the event celebrating the centre 's 25th anniversary.

Amengual wanted to reaffirm Calvià's commitment to a quality and innovative public education at the service of the municipality's families. The improvements will be implemented and will continue over two years. 90.000 euros will be invested in the gym, 100.000 euros in renovating the kitchen and installing a cold room, 30.000 euros for shaded areas, and the patio pavement will be renewed. In total, more than 250.000 euros will be invested.

"All of this is in response to the letter that the director wrote to the Three Wise Men, and whose requests have been heard. This is not a gift, you deserve it," said Amengual, addressing those present.

The institutional event was attended by municipal authorities, management teams, and staff, led by the school principal Rosa López, students, parents, staff, and Margarita Nájera, former mayoress at the time of the school's inauguration in 1999. A plaque commemorating the centre's 25th anniversary was unveiled.

Amengual recalled the centre's beginnings, designed as an environmentally friendly bioclimatic building in 1999, as well as the most notable milestones along the way. These included the European award received in 2001 for its innovative trilingual teaching project, and its ranking amongst the best pre-education schools in Spain in 2006.

Over the years, the school has continued to evolve, adapting to changing times and needs. The mayor especially thanked the current principal, Rosa López, and the entire teaching team for their daily dedication and commitment.

After the official ceremony, the school community enjoyed a popular paella organised by the Falla de El Toro and the Casa de Valencia de Calvià, as well as free children's workshops and festive-themed entertainment.
